The Jacobs Institute is pleased to be co-hosting the 2018 International Symposium on Academic Makerspaces (ISAM). The symposium, co-hosted with Stanford University’s Product Realization Lab and collaboratively organized by the Higher Education Makerspaces Initiative, will take place August 3-5, 2018, on the Stanford campus.

ISAM, now in its third year, joins the people, knowledge, and inspiration behind higher education makerspaces. With a focus on maximizing makerspaces’ impact on student learning experiences and alumni success, the symposium fosters community and learning between student and faculty advocates, university leadership, policymakers, educational researchers, and makerspace managers and other practitioners. At ISAM, this community will share knowledge and best practices in areas that include forming and growing student maker communities; cultivating strong shop culture; selecting appropriate practices, programming, safety policies, training, staffing, and equipment; and measuring and maximizing educational and social impact.

The program will include formats from short courses and poster presentations to community-building events. Learn more and register here.
