Trainings

Use the below training modules as supplemental to our hands-on training sessions, as refresher courses to brush up on these tools, or just to learn more about the equipment at Jacobs Hall.

This video serves as an introduction and training for the Jacobs Institute’s Universal Laser Cutters. Watch this video and then proceed to the bCourses module, where you will take a short quiz. Once you have taken the quiz, you are ready to go!

This video serves as an introduction and training for the Jacobs Institute’s OMAX Waterjet Cutter. Watch this video and then proceed to the bCourses module, where you will take a short quiz. Once you have passed the quiz, you are ready to go!

This video for the Shopbot PRSAlpha 96-48, a large-format three-axis CNC machine capable of carving full sheets of plywood, MDF, non-composite plastics, and almost anything softer than aluminum, will serve as a potion of our hands-on training module, and also as a persistent resource as you learn to use the machine. In it we also cover remote access of the Shopbot, and detail the process by which Jacobs Project Support users can submit parts for remote fabrication.

The Bantam Tools Desktop PCB Milling Machine, formerly known as the Othermill, is the perfect tool for small parts, molds, and custom PCBs. This video replaces the Jacobs Makerspace’s hands-on training for this machine, and includes all the information you’ll need to get to work on it (after taking the online quiz, of course!).

The Jacobs Hall Woodshop contains a suite of machines used for shaping soft materials like woods and plastics. This video is Part 1 of our training for this resource. After watching the video in full, please navigate to the bCourses module to take the online quiz.
