Join Alianza for a vibrant line up of virtual events during Latinx Heritage Month (September – October). Learn about Latinx identities and experiences in the US, engage with topics pertinent to our communities, and connect with staff across UC Berkeley. Alianza was founded in 1992 by campus Latinx staff, including our Administrative Officer, Aleta Martinez, to discuss issues in the workforce on campus and within higher education.
Alianza’s 2020 Latinx Heritage Event Lineup:
• September 23, 2020: BIPOC and White Supremacy in the Workplace: Developing Our Own Analysis Tool with Patricia Juarez
Register here
The normalization of a certain pattern of behaviors that have negatively affected the society as a whole but that especially have literally devastated BIPOC communities is so blatantly displayed, as any normalized pattern, that it is very difficult for us BIPOC to identify those patterns. During this workshop, attendees will learn to identify some of the most pervasive white supremacy patterns in the workplace.
• October 1, 2020: Harnessing your Identity for Career Growth with Jessica De Anda
Register here
Alianza’s Diversity and Advocacy Chair, Jessica De Anda, will lead a group activity to explore the intersectionality of Latinx/Chicanx identities and delve into the differences between a sponsor, cheerleader, coach, ally, mentor and the resources we have on campus to connect with people.
• October 13, 2020: Intersectional Gathering for Latinx LGBTQ+ Staff and Allies
Register here
A collaborative event between LavenderCal, QTPOC, and Alianza, this gathering will celebrate the contributions of Latinx lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer + identified leaders and change makers. Participants will also connect with colleagues from across the campus through breakout sessions and activities. Allies are welcome.
