The Jacobs Institute is currently hiring for three full-time staff positions, and is looking for passionate and dedicated individuals to join our team. Operations Manager
The operations manager oversees the Jacobs Institute’s digital infrastructure, and works creatively to research and deploy new technology solutions to support operations and improve efficiency in both the makerspace and the broader Jacobs Institute. The role’s primary responsibilities include overseeing the software and databases that support makerspace access and safety training. Other systems include equipment reservation, activity dashboard, online material store, and billing for makerspace access fees and student material store purchases.

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate, who has strong technical competence paired with excellent project management skills, and is excited by the opportunity to shape, deploy, and manage custom technology solutions for UC Berkeley’s largest makerspace.

Public Programs & Communications Officer
The Public Programs & Communications Officer oversees all marketing and communications and public programming for the Institute. On a given day in this role, you might be developing a theme and speaker ideas for our Design Conversations series, interviewing a student team for a news article, using our brand guide to generate a new piece of collateral, and tightening up a staffing flow for our Cal Day Open House. 

At its heart, this role is dedicated to reaching, serving, and engaging both the Berkeley community and broader public through programs, events, and storytelling. We are looking for candidates who will bring their unique voice and perspective to this role, collaborate well, and work diligently to ensure that the Institute consistently puts its best face forward.

Executive Director
The new Berkeley Master of Design (MDes) is an innovative professional graduate degree program being launched during the 2019-20 academic year, and which will enroll its first cohort of students in Fall 2020. The Executive Director will play an essential, leadership role in the creation of this new degree program, and is responsible for advancing the overall academic mission of the program and ensuring its high quality. This role reports to the Academic Director for the MDes, and will engage closely with the faculty leadership and affiliated faculty. The Executive Director is the lead staff member responsible for overseeing the entirety of the degree program, including student services; marketing/outreach, admissions, and recruitment; staff management; finances; and academic administration. The Executive Director will supervise, and be supported by a student services advisor and a career services/marketing specialist.

Our lecturer pool offers candidates with design expertise and a passion for teaching an opportunity to mentor students at the intersection of design and technology and in dialogue with the resources of the Jacobs Institute.
